I live in Canada and have worked with a lot of former Blackberry/RIM employees. A lot of them are still very fond of the exciting era in the 2000s. I can see some of them would be emotional over the EOL announcement.
Some people own an extensive collection of Blackberry memorabilia: Anniversary crystals, engraved watches, knick-knacks, hoodies, t-shirts. Not to mention a line of old Blackberrys over the years. I have heard about stories of debugging the enterprise server in ungodly hours. Even after the formerly Blackberry buildings have been housing other companies, a colleague told me vividly where the server racks were located exactly and was sad they're not there anymore.
I am old enough to see the rise and fall of Blackberry devices. The rise and fall reminds me to be cognizant of potential competitors and not to stop improving.
